The History of English Porcelain – Elegance and Craftsmanship
English porcelain is synonymous with refinement and quality craftsmanship. Its history begins in the 18th century, when England, fascinated by the precious Chinese and Japanese porcelain imported by the East India Company, began to develop its own ceramic tradition.
In 1748, thanks to the research of Thomas Frye and later Josiah Spode, bone china was born, a unique porcelain that combined kaolin, feldspar and a high percentage of bone ash, giving it exceptional strength and transparency. This material became the symbol of English excellence and was perfected by famous manufacturers such as Wedgwood, Royal Worcester, Minton and Derby .
Each era has left its mark on English porcelain: from the elegant neoclassical designs of Wedgwood to the opulent decorations of the Victorians, up to the more modern styles of the twentieth century. Today, these porcelains are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for their timeless beauty.
At Radisa Gallery we carefully select vintage English porcelain, offering rare and exquisite pieces that tell stories of craftsmanship, innovation and impeccable taste.
